Thoughtful guidance for relationships, emotional health, neurodiversity, trauma, parenting, and living with greater understanding.
Autism and Neurodiversity
Autistic employees don't all need the same accommodations. One person may be significantly affected by noise but have no difficulty with meetings. Another may tolerate a busy office easily but struggle when expectations aren't clearly communicated. Someone else may find unpredictable schedule changes particularly difficult.
Autistic masking refers to behaviors autistic people may use to hide, suppress, or compensate for autistic traits in order to fit social expectations. Some masking is intentional, such as consciously reminding yourself to make eye contact or avoid talking too much about a favorite subject, but other forms of masking become automatic after years of practice.
One reason autistic burnout can be difficult to recognize is that the person experiencing it may be performing very well. Being good at your job doesn't necessarily mean your work environment is easy for your nervous system to manage. Several factors may contribute to exhaustion.
Trauma/EMDR
If you're searching for EMDR therapy in Keller, Southlake, or the surrounding Fort Worth area, Living Hope Counseling offers EMDR treatment for adults and teens — both in-person at our Keller office and via telehealth throughout Texas.
If you've decided to try EMDR therapy — or you're seriously considering it — you probably have questions about what's actually going to happen in the room. That's completely normal. EMDR sounds unusual when you first read about it, and showing up to something unfamiliar without knowing what to expect can make the anxiety worse before it gets better.
EMDR is one of the most well-researched and effective treatments available for trauma and PTSD. Here's what it actually is, how it works, and whether it might be right for you.
Marriage and Relationships
Both marriage counseling and individual therapy can be incredibly valuable, but they serve different purposes. Understanding the differences can help you determine which approach may be the best fit for your current situation.
Few experiences are more painful in a relationship than discovering a partner has been unfaithful. Whether the betrayal involved a physical affair, an emotional relationship, secret online communication, or another breach of trust, infidelity can leave both partners feeling overwhelmed, hurt, angry, and uncertain about the future.
One of the most common reasons couples delay seeking help is the belief that marriage counseling is too expensive. When a relationship is struggling, it can feel difficult to justify spending money on therapy—especially when you're already dealing with stress, conflict, or uncertainty about the future.
